We’re all looking for that magic crystal ball-it’s human nature to want to know what will happen in the future. And throughout history, human beings have invented many tools to help us do just that. From tarot cards to palm readings to other forms of divination, human beings have always been naturally inclined to figure out what’s coming next. And not only did we invent different systems to help us figure it out, we also turned inward. We write down our dreams in journals, we meditate, we do yoga, we look for symbols all around us and wonder what, exactly, it all means.
Astrology is one such tool that people use to try to figure out what’s ahead of us-but is the purpose of astrology really to “predict” the future? Here are a few perspectives.
- Astrology is more of a set of guidelines to your future than a strict plan.
Astrology can absolutely give you clues to what’s coming, but you’re not going to find a specific blueprint for your future in your horoscope. In fact, horoscopes are often fairly vague because there are so many various factors that go into astrology that it’s actually impossible to pinpoint exactly what will happen to you in the coming weeks. So of course horoscopes are a ton of fun to read and keep in mind as you go through your days, but they are by no means a perfect description of what your future self will go through.
- There are many factors in your birth chart that can influence how you act in a given situation.
When you first learned about astrology, you probably thought it was all about your sun sign, right? As we learn more, we realize this isn’t necessarily true. Sometimes, the influence of your moon sign could be a lot stronger than your sun sign, bringing out a different side of your personality and causing you to act differently. And as you get older, your rising sign becomes more and more important and influential. So while your horoscope can be very accurate if you relate very strongly to the description of your sun sign, it can completely miss the mark if you don’t. That’s why astrology is so complex, and it doesn’t necessarily “predict your future” so much as describe conditions you might face in the future. It can’t predict exactly how you’ll react to them, so the actual outcome of many situations described in your horoscope or an astrological reading will typically remain unknown.
- In the end, your future is all about YOUR actions.
We can read as many cards and study as many birth charts as we want, but at the end of the day, absolutely nothing is more important than the actions you personally take in any given situation. This is why neither astrology nor any other tool can accurately “predict” the future. They can certainly give you clues and ideas on actions you may want to pursue, but ultimately, only you have the power to create your life.
